On Monday, October 20, 1997 ACM'S Board of Directors unanimously approved a Legislative Committee proposal to recommend to our membership at the Allied Charities Of Minnesota Annual Meeting (see page 4) on Friday, November 21, 1997 that ACM's 1998 Legislative Priority be a 25% Lawful Gambling Tax Reduction.

The proposal would change Minnesota's Lawful Gambling Taxes as follows:

• Net Receipts Tax on bingo, paddlewheels, & raffles reduced from 10% to 7.5%

• Ideal Gross Tax on pull-tabs & tipboards reduced from 2% to 1.5%

• Combined Receipts Tax on pull-tabs & tipboards reduced from 2%-4%-6% to 1.5%-3%-4.5%

This proposal would provide an additional $16,000,000 for lawful purposes expenditures around the state.

To have any shot at a lawful gambling tax reduction in 1998 it is imperative that lawful gambling organizations, their members, and recipients of their donations immediately start to contact their local Minnesota State Representatives and Senators to let them know that something needs to be done about Minnesota's current (and excessive) lawful gambling tax system in 1998.
